WASHINGTON — 

U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), a member of the Senate Commerce Committee and chairman of the Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, Innovation, and the Internet, today questioned a panel of data privacy experts at a full Commerce Committee hearing titled, “Consumer Perspectives: Policy Principles for a Federal Data Privacy Framework.” Thune is part of a bipartisan working group tasked with crafting federal data privacy legislation.

“I agree that the status quo is not working, which is exactly why this committee began to lay the groundwork for privacy legislation last Congress. I believe this is one of the issues Congress should be able to work on together, on a bipartisan basis, and I look forward to working with Chairman Wicker and other members of this committee to find consensus on this important issue.”
