Washington, D.C. —
Senator John Thune today announced over $40,000 in Homeland Security grant money for the Murdo Volunteer Fire Department in Murdo, South Dakota.
The $43,313 grant was awarded through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program’s Operations and Firefighter Safety Program. The funds will go towards training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness, and modifications to fire station facilities.
“Federal assistance will help the Murdo Volunteer Fire Department improve the community’s public safety,” said Thune, R-SD. “It is vital that we support South Dakota’s emergency responders and improve public safety in our communities.”
The 2004 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is administered by the Department of Homeland Security’s Office for Domestic Preparedness. The program awards one-year grants designed to improve the effectiveness of firefighting operations and improve fire prevention programs.
