WASHINGTON — Senate Majority Whip Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) today announced that his current whip office deputy chief of staff Nick Rossi will succeed Brendon Plack as chief of staff.
"Having served in a number of roles in my committee and leadership offices, Nick is uniquely prepared to take on these new responsibilities at the helm of my whip operation,” said Thune. "He's a talented, well-respected member of my team, and I look forward to everything he'll do to help me and the Senate Republican majority succeed.
"I also want to thank outgoing chief of staff Brendon Plack, a proud South Dakotan and one of my longest serving aides. Brendon is a natural leader, and thanks to his years of service in my personal office and leadership offices, his efforts will have a lasting effect on South Dakota and the United States."
Rossi has been a key member of Thune’s staff since January 2013, including serving as majority staff director of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee during Thune’s chairmanship.
Rossi has held several leadership positions on Senate committees since 2006, including minority staff director of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and minority chief counsel of both the Commerce Committee and Judiciary Committee.
Prior to his work in the Senate, Rossi served as a unit chief and special agent at the Federal Bureau of Investigation and worked as an attorney in private practice. He is an honors graduate of the University of Notre Dame and Harvard Law School.
