Washington, DC —  Yesterday evening, Senator John Thune (R-SD) joined Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) in sending a letter to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN), urging him to quickly bring overdue legislation to the Senate floor that would provide low-income and elderly Americans with assistance in affording their heating bills.

"While additional LIHEAP funding is long overdue, there are still cold months ahead and it is not too late to provide much-needed assistance to families and elderly people in affording their heating bills this winter," Thune said.

"I’ve joined Senator Grassley in urging the Majority Leader to bring LIHEAP funding legislation to the Senate floor as soon as possible. I’m hopeful we’ll have a vote in the very near future, and I urge those obstructionists in the Senate who defeated LIHEAP funding in December to put the well-being of the families and elderly people they represent ahead of politics and join us in helping them stay safe and warm through the rest of the winter."
