WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) issued the following statement after President Trump’s State of the Union address to Congress:

“Over the past year, President Trump and Republicans in Congress have worked together to get our country moving again and deliver real results for working families in South Dakota and across our nation,” said Thune. “With President Trump’s leadership, we have turned the page on four years of failed policies and have passed landmark legislation to secure our border, restore America’s energy independence, and rebuild our military to promote peace through strength. Thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts, Republicans delivered permanent tax relief for families, small businesses, farmers, and ranchers, so folks can keep more money in their pockets and small businesses can grow, invest in their workers, and create good-paying jobs.

“We also made investments in American agriculture, like increasing reference prices, bolstering the farm safety net, and improving disaster programs for farmers and ranchers, to name a few,” Thune continued. “And we did all of this while implementing meaningful reforms to strengthen existing programs and dismantle costly Biden-era regulations that stifled growth and opportunity. In just one year, so much progress has been made – but our work is not finished. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, and I look forward to keeping our foot on the gas as we continue our work to build a brighter future for hardworking families in South Dakota and across the country.”
