WASHINGTON —

U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) today issued the following statement after the Senate passed the VA MISSION Act, legislation that significantly reforms the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care delivery system, helps veterans access the care they need in their own communities, and expands caregiver support to all generations of veterans:

“The VA health care system needs to be set up in such a way that it is able to actually deliver on the promises made to these brave men and women when they answered our nation’s call. We’ve all heard too many stories about veterans who have had difficulty accessing quality care in a timely manner. The VA MISSION Act makes significant, much-needed reforms that will allow veterans to seek care when and where it is best for them. It also helps put important decisions about health care back in the hands of the veteran and his or her doctor, and it expands support for caregivers, the unsung heroes of the veterans community. The Republican-led Senate is continuing to work for our nation’s veterans, and I’m glad we are able to send this important legislation to the president for his signature.”
