Washington, DC —
Senator John Thune (R-SD) today issued the following statement regarding Japan's decision to resume importation of U.S. beef after a five-month ban:
"I am glad to see Japan has resumed the commitment it made last December to lift its two-year ban on U.S. beef. While overdue, Japan's decision to resume trade with the U.S. was the honorable and right thing to do.
"Our cattle and ranching industries in South Dakota and across the country adhere to a standard of excellence that is respected by nations worldwide. I hope trade with Japan will continue steadily, without any further disruptions, for the benefit of both countries and the continued success of our ranchers here in the U.S."
