Washington, DC —  Senator John Thune, as Ranking Member of the Senate Commerce Surface Transportation Subcommittee, will conduct a Committee hearing on Monday, August 10th, on the subject of improving surface transportation systems in rural areas. The hearing, which is open to the public, will begin at 9:30 AM Central Time in the Commission Room at Sioux Falls City Hall.

"Rural states like South Dakota rely on rural transportation systems to safely, efficiently move goods from producers to markets," said Thune. "This hearing will give experts an opportunity to offer valuable input on how federal, state, and local officials can address issues facing our transportation system today."

Efficient highway, trucking, and rail systems are critical for individuals and businesses, especially in rural areas. The hearing will include testimony from Darin Bergquist, Secretary of the South Dakota Department of Transportation, Larry Anderson, President of A & A Express, Jack Parliament, President of D&I Railroad, Lisa Richardson, Executive Director of the South Dakota Corn Growers Association, and Matt Rose, Commissioner of the National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission, and Chief Executive Officer of Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway.
