Guns
I strongly support the Second Amendment, which protects "the right of the people to keep and bear arms." The plain language of the Second Amendment guarantees the right of law-abiding citizens to own firearms, something the Supreme Court upheld in both District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. City of Chicago.
Since being elected to Congress, I have been committed to protecting the important rights our nation’s founders incorporated into the Constitution regarding firearms. This includes supporting the right of individuals with concealed carry privileges in their home state to exercise those rights in any other state with concealed carry laws while abiding by that state’s laws. I have long been an advocate for this policy and have led a legislative effort for it during previous Congresses.
Like many South Dakotans, I grew up with enormous respect and appreciation for firearms, hunting, and the outdoors. As your U.S. senator, I will continue promoting issues important to everyone who enjoys South Dakota’s outdoors and protecting the numerous hunting traditions we enjoy.
