Washington, D.C. —  Senator John Thune today commented on the Supreme Court decision upholding the Partial Birth Abortion Ban that Congress passed and President Bush signed into law in 2003.

"Today's ruling by the Supreme Court is a major triumph in the battle to protect life in this country. I thank the Justices who ruled in support of the Partial Birth Abortion ban, which seeks to finally put an end to this gruesome and brutal procedure. As a nation, we have come a long way in protecting the unborn since the Supreme Court's decision in Roe v. Wade. However, we still have a long way to go in the fight. I am pleased that my colleagues and I in the United States Senate were able to confirm two excellent additions to the Court, Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito, who played an important role in today's decision to protect the unborn."
