Thune Comments on Governor’s Request for Federal Assistance for Flood Victims

Senator John Thune today made the following statement after Governor Rounds filed an emergency request to the President for federal assistance to individuals:

“I applaud the Governor’s effort to request federal assistance on behalf of the South Dakotans recently affected by the severe flooding. I have seen the damage first-hand and spoken to many individuals and families who will need help in rebuilding their lives. I will do everything I can at the federal level to make sure this assistance is approved and delivered in a timely manner.”

Early last week, Senator Thune sent a letter to President Bush alerting him to the disaster suffered in South Dakota and that a request for federal assistance would likely be coming.
