I strongly support the Second Amendment, which protects "the right of the people to keep and bear arms." The plain language of the Second Amendment guarantees the right of law-abiding citizens to own firearms, something the Supreme Court upheld in both District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. City of Chicago. Since being elected to Congress, I have been committed to ensuring emotional rhetoric and fear mongering do not overcome common sense and to protecting the important rights our nation’s founders incorporated into the Constitution regarding firearms.

Like many South Dakotans, I grew up with an enormous respect and appreciation for firearms, hunting, and the outdoors. As your U.S. Senator, I will continue promoting issues important to South Dakota’s outdoorsmen and protecting the numerous hunting traditions we enjoy.
