Washington, D.C. —
Senator John Thune today announced that eligible patients will receive more in reimbursement for travel related to VA medical care.
"High gas prices might make people change some of their driving habits, but they should not get in the way of veterans having access to health care," said Thune. "Increasing the mileage reimbursement will help alleviate some of the strain related to traveling to and from medical services."
The 2008 Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act provided funding for the VA to increase the travel mileage reimbursement from 11 cents per mile to 28.5 cents per mile. The increase goes into effect on February 1, 2008.
