The U.S. Department of Agriculture is awarding a grant and loan totaling nearly $290,000 to increase the water supply in Clay County, U.S. Senator John Thune announced today.
A $103,000 grant and a $184,000 loan from federal Rural Development funds will go to increase water supply in the southern portion of the Clay Rural Water Supply distribution area.
“This grant will improve water access for farmers and ranchers in Clay County, strengthening our economy and community,” Thune said. “I’m pleased the federal government is contributing to this important water effort.”
The grant and loan will help construct 14 miles of 8” pipeline. In addition, an interconnect with the City of Vermillion will be installed with a small plant/booster station constructed on Coyote Street.
The new grant and loan will assist cost overrun expenses of the Greenfield Supply Project. Previously, the USDA awarded the project a loan of $799,000 in FY 2005.
