Washington, D.C. —  Senator John Thune will welcome home South Dakota troops from Iraq at a special ceremony at 11 am, Thursday in Watertown.

Members of the HHS 2nd Battalion, 147th Field Artillery are currently in Fort Still, Oklahoma after serving in Iraq and will return to South Dakota tomorrow.

“Our troops served the nation bravely and all South Dakotans are proud of them,” said Thune, R-SD. “I look forward to welcoming them home from a job well done.”

As a member of the Senate Armed Services committee, Thune traveled to Iraq earlier this month to visit troops from South Dakota and meet top Iraqi and Coalition officials.

“Having met with some of the South Dakota troops serving in Iraq, I understand how much members of the armed services and their families are sacrificing,” Thune said. “I look forward to saying thank you on behalf of a grateful nation and proud state.”
