WASHINGTON —

U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) issued the following statement today regarding the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) move to withdraw the Clean Power Plan rule.

“The Trump administration has taken a step in the right direction by moving to undo the so-called Clean Power Plan rule mandated under former President Obama. I have long opposed this rule, which would likely have been one of the most costly of the Obama administration's executive overreaches. Under this rule, which remains blocked by the courts, American families would have suffered unnecessary hikes in their electricity costs as a result of decisions made by unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats in Washington. Many Americans today are living paycheck to paycheck. By rolling back this rule, we can ensure that American families will continue to have access to reliable and affordable energy.”
