Washington, DC —
John Thune (R-SD) today voted to confirm Judge John Roberts to be Chief Justice of the United States.
“It was a great privilege to cast my vote to confirm Judge Roberts today as Chief Justice of the United States,” Thune said. “He is a man of strong moral character, high intellect, and most importantly, he is committed to applying the law as it is written, not according to his own opinions or philosophies. I look forward to the fine service Judge Roberts will provide the Court as the Chief Justice and this nation for years to come.
“As the Senate sends Judge Roberts to the Supreme Court, we turn our attention to the next vacancy to be filled. I am confident President Bush’s second nominee will be equally fit and qualified, and I urge my colleagues to wait respectfully on the President’s nomination and proceed with a fair hearing and up-or-down vote, just as we witnessed today.”
The Senate today voted 78-22 to confirm Judge John Roberts to be Chief Justice of the United States.
