Washington, D.C. —  Senator John Thune made the following comments regarding today's Farm Bill developments:

"Although all the details have not been made public, it appears a deal on the Farm Bill has been reached. It has been almost seven months since the current Farm Bill originally expired and it is long past due for Congress to produce a Farm Bill that will help America's agriculture producers grow the food, fuel, and fiber that we all need. I am confident that a version of the Senate's permanent disaster title will be a part of the final bill, which is a major victory for South Dakota's family farmers and ranchers. I am also confident that the traditional farm safety net will remain intact, along with a robust conservation title. I look forward to discussing this deal with my Agriculture Committee colleagues and getting it signed into law as soon as possible."

Senator Thune is a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee.
