Thune Denounces EPA’s Attack on Affordable Energy

Rule Would Drive Up Costs, Destroy Jobs

September 20, 2013

Washington, D.C. —

Senator John Thune (R-S.D.) today issued a statement denouncing a proposed rule from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that would require new power plants to meet unrealistic new standards:

“After announcing his intention to ‘pivot’ back to jobs this week, the president has made an about-face and pivoted instead to climate regulations that would slash jobs and increase energy costs. South Dakotans depend on affordable and reliable energy from coal and natural gas-fired power plants in the upper Great Plains. This new rule would have a direct impact on employers and consumers already struggling in the Obama economy. Unfortunately, the president appears to be more focused on pleasing the far-left environmental wing of his party than he is on creating jobs and keeping energy costs affordable for middle-class families.”
