Thune on Fox Business: South Dakotans Already Benefiting From Tax Reform

“These businesses realize that this is a great opportunity for them to grow and expand their operations, and in doing that, that benefits their employees and their workers.”

WASHINGTON —

U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), a member of the tax-writing Senate Finance Committee and a leading voice during the tax reform debate, today joined Varney & Co. on Fox Business to discuss how South Dakotans and the American people are already seeing the positive effects of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act in the form of special bonuses, higher wages, and other benefits. Yesterday, Great Western Bank in South Dakota announced a wage hike and special bonuses because of tax reform. Just this morning, Walmart announced that it is increasing wages, issuing bonuses, and expanding parental and maternity leave because of tax reform.

Excerpt from Thune on Varney & Co.:

“These businesses realize that this is a great opportunity for them to grow and expand their operations, and in doing that, that benefits their employees and their workers. We’ve seen it in South Dakota, too. Great Western Bank just announced they’re raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour. You talked about Walmart this morning and Waste Management – there are good stories all over the place that people like Elizabeth Warren seem to be turning a deaf ear to, but in the end, it is the American people who are going to benefit.”
