Senator John Thune today lauded the hiring of 45 new civilian employees at the Air Force Financial Service Center (AFFSC) at Ellsworth Air Force Base.
"This substantial hiring of Rapid City area civilians represents a significant positive economic impact for the Rapid City community," said Thune. "These are good-paying, long-term jobs for purely civilian residents in and near Rapid City that will have a great economic ripple effect across western South Dakota."
The new hires consist of 41 General Schedule 5 (GS-5) employees, two supervisors, and two IT systems personnel. They began working in their new jobs at AFFSC on Monday.
The Air Force Financial Service Center, which opened last September, is estimated to save the Air Force $200 million over ten years by consolidating 93 locations into one central location. The establishment of AFFSC will allow airmen nationwide the opportunity to call anytime, day or night, with financial questions. While the 24 hour call center is not yet operational, the processing center, where these new hires are working, is operational.
