Washington, D.C. —  Senator John Thune today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has released $188,100 to the Community Health Care Association of the Dakotas. The funds, which were requested by Senator Thune in the Fiscal Year 2009 Labor, Health and Human Services appropriations bill, will be used to provide mobile dental services for children without adequate access to dental care.

"Good dental health is important to a child's overall development and future health," said Thune. "This funding will help many children across South Dakota who might otherwise not have access to dental care."

The program operates two trucks that serve as mobile dental offices. Since the program's inception in 2004, more than 8,000 children in over 50 South Dakota communities have received $3.4 million worth of dental care.
