Washington, DC —  Senator John Thune today made the following statement regarding the Conference Report on the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act for Defense, the Global War on Terror, and Hurricane Recovery for Fiscal Year 2006:

"I voted for this emergency spending bill because I am committed to providing our troops with the necessary resources to fight and win the Global War on Terror as well as assist the Gulf states in their recovery efforts. However, it was unfortunate that the $4 billion for agriculture disaster relief passed by the Senate was cut to $500 million. America's farmers and ranchers deserve better. South Dakota is already suffering from a drought this year, so I will continue to fight for agriculture disaster relief."
