WASHINGTON —

U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) today released the following statement after the Senate passed the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act, a bipartisan package of Senate and House proposals, including Thune-authored proposals, to combat the opioid crisis. The bill will now head to the president for his signature.

“The SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act combats the opioid crisis on multiple fronts, increasing treatment, recovery, and prevention efforts,” said Thune. “This was truly a bipartisan, bicameral effort, and this is one step toward ending this devastating epidemic. My provision included in the bill will equip rural communities with necessary tools to help those who are battling substance- use disorder. I look forward to seeing the president sign this bill into law so we can continue to help those who need it the most.”
