Washington, DC —  Senator John Thune (R-SD) today issued the following statement applauding President Bush's nomination of U.S. Trade Representative Rob Portman to the position of Director of the Office of Management and Budget:

"Rob is an excellent nominee for Budget Director. Someone with his expertise and demonstrated commitment to fiscal discipline is highly qualified to step in and steer the nation's budget responsibly and with restraint to ensure continued, record economic growth for American families," Thune said. "Equally important are Rob's close ties with Congress. A former colleague of mine in the House, I have witnessed firsthand Rob's effective negotiating style and ability to bring people from both sides of the aisle together to accomplish great things for the American people. In his new role, Rob is sure to continue to forge a strong and efficient working relationship between the White House and Congress."
