Washington, D.C. —
Senator John Thune today announced that he along with Senators Charles Grassley of Iowa and Chuck Hagel of Nebraska sent a letter to officials at the Department of Justice and the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services requesting funds for the National Training Center (NTC) in Sioux City, Iowa. The NTC was set to receive funds approved by Congress, but were eliminated due to the Continuing Resolution funding mechanism enacted by Congressional Democrats earlier this year. The National Training Center uses a regional approach to fight methamphetamine and the crimes associated with this growing problem. Many of South Dakota's law enforcement agencies benefit from the training programs offered at the NTC.
"The National Training Center serves as a premier training facility for many of South Dakota's law enforcement agencies and officers who are continually fighting meth trafficking and abuse. This funding is essential if the NTC is to remain open and effective," said Thune.
