Washington, D.C. —  Scott VanderWal, president of the South Dakota Farm Bureau, yesterday presented Senator John Thune with the "Friend of Farm Bureau" Award, which recognizes Senator Thune's record on agricultural and energy issues, including his work in helping to write the 2008 Farm Bill. Senator Thune, a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, has received the Friend of Farm Bureau Award several times as a member of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

"I am honored and deeply appreciative to receive the `Friend of Farm Bureau Award' for the 110th Congress," said Thune. "Agriculture is one of the most important parts of South Dakota's economy, and the decisions Congress makes greatly impact producers. I am pleased to be serving on the Agriculture Committee again this Congress and will continue to work on behalf of South Dakota's farmers and ranchers."
