Washington, D.C. —  Senator John Thune announced today that he will be hosting a hearing of the U.S. Senate Agriculture Energy Subcommittee on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at 10:00 AM CT in Brookings. Senator Thune is the Ranking Member on the Energy Subcommittee. This hearing will provide information for the Agriculture Committee as they prepare to draft the Energy Title of the 2007 Farm Bill.

"This hearing will give South Dakotans a chance to directly voice their opinions on the emerging biofuels industry for the official record of the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee without traveling to Washington," said Thune. "Ethanol has transformed the landscape of corn country and we need to be preparing for the commercial production of cellulosic ethanol from diverse feed stocks, such as switchgrass. I look forward to hearing from South Dakota's farmers and ranchers as well as the renewable energy community on their needs and how we can work together to prepare the infrastructure for this next frontier in bio-fuel production."

Additional details regarding the meeting will be available as the date approaches. Senator Thune encourages members of the agriculture community to attend this field hearing.
