Washington, DC —
Senator John Thune today expressed disappointment over the Senate's failure to repeal the unpopular health care law passed last year, despite the bill being ruled unconstitutional by a federal judge earlier this week. The repeal measure failed by a vote of 47 to 51.
"The Senate's failure today to repeal the new health care law was a significant missed opportunity," said Thune. "The Democrat majority in the Senate has decided to keep a law on the books that penalizes individuals for making deeply personal health care decisions, while actually increasing health care costs.
"Voters across America expressed their clear will this past Election Day: They want this health care law repealed and replaced with meaningful reforms. I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress to achieve that end."
