Washington, DC —
Senator John Thune (R-SD) today issued the following statement after voting to confirm Judge Samuel Alito's nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court:
"I was proud to vote today to confirm Judge Alito's nomination and send this worthy candidate to the Supreme Court. I'm confident he will serve the nation and the Court with dignity and diligence,” Thune said. "Today's vote, however, was overdue. Democrats attempted a filibuster knowing Judge Alito's qualifications and experience would carry him through regardless of procedural delays and partisan tactics. I hope yesterday's defeat of the filibuster and today's successful confirmation will come as a lesson to partisans in the Senate to abandon their agenda of obstruction and work together this year to advance an agenda of accomplishment for the American people.”
