Washington, D.C. —
Senator John Thune announced today that the Institute of Museum and Library Services awarded $28,000 in grants ranging from $5,000 - $6,000 to five different Native American Reservations in South Dakota. The recipients are Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, Oglala Sioux Tribe, Rosebud Sioux Tribe, Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate, and Yankton Sioux Tribe.
“This funding is important to improving Native American libraries in South Dakota,” Thune said. “The grants will go toward technological upgrades and improving basic services to help keep libraries on our reservations up to date.”
The Institute of Museum and Library Services offers grants to help support existing library operations and to maintain core library services. They also offer an Education/Assessment Option to provide funding for library staff to attend continuing education courses, give presentations at conferences related to library services, and/or to hire a consultant for an onsite professional library assessment.
