Washington, DC —
Senator John Thune announced today that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has reported that 120,048 of the 125,808 Medicare beneficiaries in South Dakota have registered for the Medicare Part D program, a 95 percent participation rate.
"This is a positive sign for this program," said Thune. "Many South Dakota Medicare beneficiaries now have prescription drug coverage they didn't have before this benefit was created. Although I was not in the Senate at the time that Part D was enacted, I have heard from many seniors that the coverage has reduced the cost of their prescription drugs. I will continue to monitor this program and listen to seniors to assess the ongoing progress."
