Over the last four years, our country became less secure. More than 10 million illegal immigrants flooded across our southern border, including criminals, gang members, and suspected terrorists. Our energy security was jeopardized by policies that discouraged domestic energy production at a time when energy demand was increasing. And as the world grew more dangerous, the Biden administration put investing in our military on the backburner. 

 

Fortunately, those days are over. President Trump has acted swiftly to secure the border, he has moved to unleash American energy, and he has restored a foreign policy rooted in peace through strength. Most Americans support this new direction, but to solidify these gains for the long term, Congress needs to act, too. That’s why Republicans are working on legislation to ensure that the Trump administration’s initiatives are both successful and enduring. 

 

The Republican majorities in Congress have been working hard to draft a bill that will deliver on this important goal. In addition to making permanent the tax relief we implemented in 2017, this bill will include transformative investments in border security, energy security, and in our national security.

 

Under President Trump, illegal border crossings have plummeted and criminal illegal immigrants who had taken up residence in our country are being deported. But these efforts cannot continue without additional resources. So this bill will include a significant investment in border security that allows the Trump administration to continue to execute this mission for the next four years.

 

Our bill will also invest in strengthening our military. As the world grew more dangerous in the last four years, our military capabilities have failed to keep pace with adversaries like China. In some key areas, we’ve moved backwards. President Trump has made it clear that he intends to reverse these dangerous declines to build “the most powerful military of the future.” Republicans are preparing to make the investment needed to build up our military and ensure America’s men and women in uniform have what they need to keep America safe.

 

A secure and affordable energy supply is also a critical priority for the Trump administration and Republicans in Congress. America’s energy resources are one of our greatest assets, and we should be using them rather than depending on energy from hostile countries or unstable regions of the world. The bill Republicans are crafting will be a key part of efforts already underway to unleash American energy dominance to deliver reliable and affordable energy to the American people for years to come.

 

President Trump has gotten our country moving in the right direction again. The bill that we’re working on now will help ensure that these gains will continue into the future. We have a lot of work to do, but Republicans are committed to delivering on our promise of a more secure America.
