“There are things we can and should be doing and hopefully can do in a bipartisan way if the Democrats will cooperate with us and be realistic about it.”

Washington —

U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) today joined Fox News’ “Your World With Neil Cavuto” and Fox Business’ “Varney & Co.” to discuss what Senate Republicans are doing to strengthen the economy as states begin to reopen and the importance of keeping public safety at the forefront. Thune also discussed House Democrats’ $3 trillion left-wing messaging bill they passed last Friday night, which they disguised as a COVID relief bill and has absolutely no chance of becoming law.

“I think the economy wants to bust loose, but it’s going to be gradual. It’s not going to be overnight. We’re not going to flip the switch, but I think you’re starting to see signs that there’s light at the end of the tunnel. And I think that’s going to be very welcome to a lot of Americans, small businesses, workers, people who have been unemployed that we can start getting back to a more regular footing – and in the third quarter and fourth quarter, we start to see some improvement.”

“The House Democrats passed a $3 trillion sort of wish list last week. It was partly the size of it – the scale of it – but also the substance of it … It’s going to be impossible to see that move forward. The Senate’s not going to act on it. There are things we can and should be doing and hopefully can do in a bipartisan way if the Democrats will cooperate with us and be realistic about it.”

“[House Democrats] blew into town for 24 hours and passed a $3 trillion gift bag for their special interests, and I think what we’ve got to focus on are the things that are actually going to help get this economy going again and get those jobs back. But the challenge is going to be, you’re right, negotiating with them. It’s always going to be about more money and more regulations and more intervention and more government. And that’s the challenge that we face in any negotiation, because to get anything out of here with a Democrat House and a 60-vote threshold in the Senate, you got to have Democrats vote for it.”
