Washington, D.C. —  Senator John Thune will be joined by leaders in both the public and private sectors on Wednesday, July 2, to discuss issues relating to the cost of energy, including untapped domestic resources and future biofuels potential. The impact of high fuel costs on transportation and South Dakota's economy will also be discussed. The event is open to the public.

"The cost of energy, particularly gasoline and diesel fuel, is the number one economic issue facing our nation today," said Thune. "There is no sector of our economy that is not affected by high energy costs. I encourage South Dakotans to attend this discussion and offer their opinions on this issue that impacts us all."

Senator Thune will be joined by Michael D. Olsen, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Lands and Minerals Management at the U.S. Department of the Interior, Lisa Richardson of the South Dakota Corn Growers Association, and Myron Rau of the South Dakota Trucking Association. The meeting will be held in Amphitheater II at the Ramkota Hotel in Sioux Falls.
