Washington, D.C. —
U.S. Senator John Thune was awarded the 2008 Congressional Partnership Award by the National Association of Development Organizations. The award was presented to Senator Thune today by Dick Edenstrom, Executive Director of the First District Association of Local Governments, and Lynn Keller, Executive Director of the South Eastern Council of Governments. Together these economic development organizations represent 17 counties in eastern South Dakota.
"Creating economic opportunities in South Dakota is one of my highest priorities in the United States Senate," said Thune. "Small businesses are sprouting up all across South Dakota, and it is a privilege for me to be able to work with organizations like the First District Association of Local Governments. I am honored to receive the Congressional Partnership Award from their representatives."
National Association of Development Organizations President Leanne Mazer said, "Senator Thune is a true leader who has displayed an unwavering commitment to providing new economic opportunities for our nation's local communities. Most importantly, Senator Thune understands that federal programs for basic infrastructure, small business development, job creation, and comprehensive economic development planning are essential for long-term competitiveness of our local communities."
The Congressional Partnership Award recognizes Members of Congress who have displayed strong support for regional development policies.
