Washington, D.C. —  Senator John Thune testified today before the National Parks subcommittee of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee at a hearing on his bill, S. 824, to extend the timeline for the establishment of a national memorial to disabled veterans in our nation's capital.

The Senate authorized the construction of a memorial to America's disabled veterans in October of 2000, but that authorization is set to expire this year. The memorial will be funded by private donations, and will not take away funding from any veterans programs. Senator Thune's legislation would extend the authorization through 2015.

"This bill will allow for the completion of a memorial to appropriately honor and recognize the sacrifices made by veterans who have been disabled during their service to our country," said Thune.
