Washington, D.C. —
Senator John Thune today made the following statement after Governor Rounds filed an emergency request to the President for federal assistance to individuals:
"I applaud the Governor's effort to request federal assistance on behalf of the South Dakotans recently affected by the severe flooding. I have seen the damage first-hand and spoken to many individuals and families who will need help in rebuilding their lives. I will do everything I can at the federal level to make sure this assistance is approved and delivered in a timely manner."
Early last week, Senator Thune sent a letter to President Bush alerting him to the disaster suffered in South Dakota and that a request for federal assistance would likely be coming.
