Washington, D.C. —
Today, Senator John Thune announced that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) approved an additional X-ray machine for the Sioux Falls Regional Airport (FSD). This upgrade will support the airport's anticipated passenger needs by cutting wait times while still ensuring excellent detection and screening to protect passengers and airport personnel from potential security threats.
"Another X-ray machine means better service and shorter security lines at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport. This upgrade means that passengers should be able to get through security in less time," said Thune.
"Sioux Falls Regional Airport is ready for a second X-ray machine and I am glad to see they are getting it. With two machines the security lines should be shorter and in the event that one of the machines is temporarily under repairs, TSA staff will not have to resort to slower hand-wand inspection procedures."
TSA will coordinate with local authorities and the Sioux Falls Airport Board on the installation and support of the X-ray machine. The new device is expected to be added this May in anticipation of any summer increases in air travel.
Sioux Falls Regional Airport is served by Northwest Airlines, Northwest Airlink, Delta Airlines, United Express and Allegiant Air. With flights connecting passengers to over 200 domestic cities and many international destinations, South Dakota, southwest Minnesota, and northwest Iowa depend on Sioux Falls Regional Airport to meet their traveling needs.
