Washington, DC —
Senator John Thune today announced the U.S. Department of Education has awarded the South Dakota Department of Education a grant for $13,000 under the Advanced Placement (AP) Test Fee Program. These grants are awarded to state educational agencies to pay all or a portion of the fees for AP or International Baccalaureate tests taken by low-income students.
"I'm pleased to announce this grant, which will directly assist low-income South Dakota students who are embracing the challenge of Advanced Placement tests to elevate their academic profile and increase their chances of college scholarships," Thune said. "I am proud of all South Dakota students who are dedicated to learning and succeeding at school, and I am continually impressed by those students who have overcome unique challenges and hardships at home to excel at school and go on to higher learning and fulfilling careers."
This grant will help pay for 250 AP tests that will be taken by low-income South Dakota students this spring.
