Washington, DC —
Senator John Thune yesterday met with former North Dakota Governor Edward Schafer, whom President Bush recently nominated to serve as the Secretary of Agriculture. The meeting took place in Senator Thune's Washington office where the two discussed the 2007 Farm Bill, the importance of ethanol and other agriculture issues important to the Dakotas.
"I've worked with Ed Schafer on several matters important to South Dakota and I believe he is a good man and is a great choice to serve as the next Secretary of Agriculture. My discussion with Governor Schafer centered on the importance of the biofuels industry in our two states. It will be a big advantage for South Dakota to have someone from the Northern Plains in that position," said Thune.
