Washington, D.C. —  To protect the institution of marriage from activist judges, Senator John Thune co-sponsored the Marriage Protection Amendment introduced in the U.S. Senate today. If approved, the constitutional amendment would guarantee that marriage remains between one man and one woman.

“The tradition of marriage between one man and one woman is under attack in courtrooms around America,” said Thune (R-SD). “To protect marriages from activist judges, we need a constitutional amendment that defines marriage as one man and one woman. Marriage should be defined by the people through their elected representatives – not unelected, activist judges.”

The measure is sponsored by Sen. Wayne Allard (R-CO) and twenty co-sponsors, including Thune.
