Washington, D.C. —
Senator John Thune, R-S.D., today said the upcoming elections in Iraq are a victory for Iraqi and Coalition forces.
“The free elections in Iraq are a great milestone in the fight to create a stable and democratic Iraq,” Thune said. “These elections would not happen without the bravery, commitment and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform, and the desire of Iraqis to live in freedom. Regardless of who is ahead when the polls close on Sunday, the fact that the polls opened at all is a great victory for Coalition forces and a severe blow to the insurgents.”
